THE LICENSING HOUSE APPOINTS DAVID SPICER PRODUCTIONS AS AUSTRALIAN & NEW ZEALAND SUB-AGENT
New York–based theatrical licensing company expands international footprint with major Australian / New Zealand partnership.
The Licensing House (TLH), the newly launched global theatrical licensing company, has announced the appointment of David Spicer Productions (DSP) as its exclusive sub-agent for Australia and New Zealand, marking a significant expansion of TLH’s international licensing strategy.
Founded by industry veteran Sean Cercone, The Licensing House entered the market late last year with a bold slate that includes Barry Manilow’s Harmony: A New Musical, alongside hit parody titles Stranger Sings! The Musical Parody and Friends! The Musical Parody. TLH is also the parent company of Dramallama, an innovative subscription-based licensing platform designed specifically for schools and educators.
Cercone, formerly the CEO of Broadway Licensing Global and Broadway On Demand, spent over a decade building and leading one of the world’s largest theatrical licensing catalogues. His new venture aims to introduce fresh models, greater accessibility, and meaningful competition into the licensing marketplace.
“I first met David when one of my musicals was touring Australia, and I was immediately struck by his energy, insight, and deep understanding of the market,” said Cercone.
“David Spicer Productions has an extraordinary track record, and they are perfectly positioned to help us bring the distinctive works we represent to theatre-makers across Australia and New Zealand.”
David Spicer, whose agency has licensed thousands of productions since its founding in 1998, welcomed the partnership as a timely and exciting development for the region.
“The Licensing House represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking company our sector needs,” said Spicer.
“Sean isn’t afraid to challenge long-standing models, and that ambition is reflected in everything TLH is building — from its professional titles to the Dramallama subscription service for schools.”
“Sean runs marathons for fun and climbs mountains professionally — and that same determination is reshaping theatrical publishing. Dramallama, in particular, has the potential to genuinely change life for drama teachers, while injecting the kind of healthy competition into licensing that other industries saw with platforms like Netflix and Uber.”
